About Me
My name is Eric Fassbender, welcome to my site! This site is a repository for all of the things that I want to share online. I have intentionally grouped all aspects of my interests together here, to give a greater sense of myself as a person. Rather than use purpose built websites, I am fleshing out the idea of a digital home for myself. However, feel free to check out just the parts that are of interest to you!
For those of you that stuck around to learn more about me, I am happy to oblige. I research the resistant exit of social media users. I focus on exit as a proactive action that gives a person more power than they experienced in their prior organization. This research has led me to federated social media as I tracked mass exits from Twitter. I seek to reconcile the ideals of federated systems with the underlying protocols that enable them. Specifically, many people leave corporate owned media to avoid corporate surveillance. However, those users find themselves in incredibly open systems. My future research projects center around the development of protocols that enable federated systems, and the ways that community needs influence developers and standards organizations. Visit my blog for up to date information on the progress of my research.
In my free time, I love to practice my photography. I have been a digital photographer since 2015, focusing on landscape photography. These days you will see me experimenting with macro and film photography. On the side I am also buffing up my coding skills. I am most familiar with R and SQL, but I endeavor to pick up skills in Python, React/Redux, JS, and Ruby. With the little spare time I have left I am learning guitar and spending time with my two cats, Tippy and Nose.
